  • Allegra and Danielle prove squash is not just for boys

Every month Racquets Fitness Centre runs a one-day Junior Squash Tournament.  New and experienced junior players from the club and some from other clubs are encouraged to enter to gain valuable match experience.  We see great changes in the juniors from one tournament to the next.

With 10 players in the improvers grade and 5 in the elite grade the tournament was well attended.

The B grade was fiercely competitive in both round robins where Dominic Crowley from Abingdon came through Group A and Allegra Michopoulos of Racquets Group B.  In the final play-off Dominic showed us the standard you can achieve after playing regularly for a few years and ran out as the winner but Allegra proved that girls compete very well in this sport.

Allegra is one of our regular academy juniors who started playing in December 2016.  After only 10 months she is now training with the Under 13 Oxfordshire squad and will be playing in any Under 13 County girls matches.  Allegra will be playing her first England Squash ranking tournament on 5th November at Abingdon squash club.  Good luck to Allegra and our other players competing in that.

Dominic Crowley is part of the Under 11 Boys Oxfordshire squad.

One-day junior squash tournament Oct 2017In the Elite grade this time there were no home grown Racquets juniors.  Dominic’s brother Sam Crowley from Abingdon took the crown with Alex Smith also of Abingdon as the runner-up.

Special mention goes to Danielle Dudley-Heidkamp, one of our newest academy juniors, who played in the improvers grade despite having only been playing for a short while.  Danielle’s determination was admirable in the face of playing other juniors who have much more experience.

Contact Chloe at Racquets for more information about the next one-day tournament on Saturday 4th November or to join the Racquets academy of squash.
