  • Ensure your back is strong

We have many people who come to us who have or have had the proverbial ‘bad’ back.

Generally it is a symptom of lack of exercise or a lack of strengthening of core muscles prior to irregular exercise.

At other times it is simply a lack of stretching / cooling down after exercise.

Around your spine there are core stability muscles.  These engage when you lift heavy objects or move in ways that mean that your head and shoulders are not immediately supported by your  body.  If these muscles are not engaged and worked regularly then irregular or unexpected abnormal movement or lifting heavy objects becomes a dangerous past time !  And these things happen on a daily basis.

Pregancy is a classic time in a woman’s life when these core muscles are neglected and a bad back becomes an issue after the baby is born as the baby grows.

A sedentary job will ensure that your core muscles are left to wilt – if you don’t exercise during the day then your body needs conditioning in the evenings !

So, at Racquets Fitness Centre, we can help – whether you have pain now – or to ensure you never experience any :

Activity to avoid issues with your back

Yoga : designed to stretch all those muscles which tighten up during daily life or during exercise – to allow them full movement when you need them

Pilates : designed to strengthen and stretch those muscles that hold your body in place

Fitball : the use of a moving base ensures that your core stability muscles around your spine are constantly engaged to try to keep you still during the exercises

Gym workout : if you can make any of the classes then sessions in the gym can be designed specifically to help with core stability

Any exercise : If you don’t already have pain in your back then your core muscles may be strong at the moment – any exercise will help keep them this way
