Juniors from Racquets show astonishing performances in Racquets one day tournament.

On the weekend of the 3rd December, Racquets Fitness Centre hosted a one day tournament for juniors from all over the South Region to participate and compete in. The club received a remarkable amount of interest and all in all had 24 entries. The ability of juniors ranged from beginner level to county level. This allowed for three groups of 8 to be formed, each group consisting of similar standard competitors. The tournament was run on a round robin basis, meaning each player had to play everyone in their group. Depending on the results, play offs would then take place to decipher everyone’s places in their groups which would therefore determine the winners and the runner ups.

In group C, new player Dryw McLaren, after only one coaching session with Ben Hedger, managed to fight his way through the tournament against more experienced players from the likes of Thame, Abingdon, Wendover and Wycombe. Not only did Dryw win his group, he didn’t drop a game in the process which is an outstanding achievement. Dryw’s coach Ben Hedger said, “Dryw showed great character and sportsmanship in all of his matches and should be extremely pleased with his performances.” As a reward for Dryw’s performance, he received a free 3 months gold membership at Racquets Fitness Centre, which gives him the benefits of using all the facilities and getting group coaching at the best prices. Dryw is now having regular coaching and his game is coming on rapidly. You will expect to see plenty more from this kid in the near future.

In group B, Racquets’ up and coming junior, Luke Hayes proved far too strong for his opponents. He’s been working on his game thoroughly week in week out always trying to become a better performer and it really showed in this tournament. He gets good hits with the fellow juniors at Racquets as well as coaching from Sue Martin-Downhill and Ben Hedger. He shows great potential for the future and continues to show a passion for the game.

Ollie Cartwright has been working extremely hard and achieved a fantastic second place in the A grade ahead of previous winner, James Portsmouth and other older and more experience players.
